Weston, FL – May 2, 2018 – BioMatrix Specialty Pharmacy announced today their selection as an authorized provider of Shire’s limited distribution drug, Vonvendi™ [von Willebrand factor (Recombinant)]. Vonvendi is the first recombinant product indicated for on-demand treatment and control of bleeding episodes in adults diagnosed with von Willebrand disease (VWD). Von Willebrand disease is the most common bleeding disorder, affecting up to 1% of the US population. The chronic condition is caused by missing or dysfunctional von Willebrand Factor (VWF), leading to frequent recurring bleeding episodes.
Vonvendi is infused intravenously to replace missing or dysfunctional VWF. It is the first product to offer recombinant von Willebrand factor (rVWF) independent of recombinant Factor VIII (rFVIII). Shire reports this allows for a more tailored, patient specific treatment approach. Phase 3 open-label clinical study data demonstrated 100% treatment success using Vonvendi to control bleeding episodes.
